We Might as well be in Nazi Germany

Wow. I can't believe I missed this story. I must have been really caught up in things. I'm still having a hard time believing that people actually made comments like this. I keep thinking it must have been a hoax. If it's not a hoax, which it looks like it's not, hats off to the radio host.

The world is becoming a very scary place. Bad time to be a Muslim though...

Update....wow. It was true. I still can't believe I missed it. I checked the CAIR site and found this.

My wife and children were all born here. I was here since I was 9months. I find it a bit strange when a person utters "Go Back home".

This statement always makes me wonder, how many generations must I go through to call Canada my home?

My reply to ignorant comments like that is simply to say "Unless your native North American - you have a place to go back home to as well".

Natives were telling Europeans to go back home but instead, they stayed and now Natives are in concentration camps...oops sorry - I think they are called reservations.

OK...Point taken. It is a weird one though. I've been guilty of using the term "go home" even on this blog. I've never said it to anyone to their face though.

See that's the problem. Many of us hold it in some way or another. My mom often reminds me that just because I was born here, it doesn't mean that I'm more Canadian than she is, or that I belong here more than she does. My dad also points out that he is Canadian by choice which shows a stronger loyalty than being born here. I had no choice in the matter. He, on the other made the choice, and made it for me and my siblings as well. So he argues that he is more Canadian than I am.

Then again. When I see people who I find embarrasing in some way or another, like Adnan Hashmi, the Pakistani politician who a few years after moving to Canada posed as a police officer to basically sway a municipal election in his favour, well, I get pretty damned disgusted. I mean, I feel stupid to even be affiliated with these people (culturally), and as a Canadian, I feel disgusted that they are behaving in this manner, ruining it for the rest of us, and making Canadians look bad overall. The problem is, where do you draw the line? Deport the bad apples? Slap them on the wrist? What do we do? It's a really tough one.

I'm not of the opinion that you should punish an entire community for the acts of a few bad apples, so don't blame all pakistanis for Adnan Hashmi's stupidity. Don't blame all Muslims for Bin Laden. But, individuals who behave in a manner that's not appropriate should be penalized appropriately too.

Thoughts?
